The Sunset Shuffle was a popular dance in Dallas, Texas in the 1940’s. It was created at Sunset High School in the Oakcliff neighborhood of Dallas.
This dance has the 4-count rhythm of foxtrot (slow, quick, quick, slow, quick, quick, etc.) and uses the basic box step as an entry and exit to the crossing and shuffle steps unique to this dance.
The Sunset Shuffle is danced to uptempo music and mixes easily with Swing, Lindy Hop, Balboa, Blues and Charleston. It is a smooth style with the feet and hips doing most the work. The shoulders and head stay fairly level throughout the dance.
